Why choose Zanzibar as your next holiday destination?

It's Simple .....

Getting to Zanzibar from South Africa is super convenient. It's just a short 3 to 4-hour flight, and even better, South African passport holders don't need a visa for leisure stays.

Once you arrive, you'll find that Zanzibar truly has something for everyone. You can dive into the island's rich history and vibrant culture, or simply kick back at your hotel, enjoying the beach or poolside with your favourite read. It's all about your perfect pace!

About Zanzibar

Known as the "Spice Island," Zanzibar is truly one of East Africa's top beach destinations, boasting a rich culture and incredible history. Its stunning beaches are absolutely perfect for anyone dreaming of a wonderfully lazy, sun-soaked vacation. You'll find long stretches of white sand, warm turquoise waters, and plenty of swaying palm trees – ideal for simply unwinding and enjoying that blissful island pace.

Best time to travel.

For the best weather in Zanzibar, aim for June to October when it's beautifully cool and dry – perfect for exploring or just relaxing on the beach. Another fantastic option is December to February for those who love hot, dry, sun-drenched days. Just keep in mind that the rainy season, typically characterized by short, heavy showers, runs from March to May.

My Top Hotels

These are the resorts I highly recommend for their fantastic value and unique charm. Among the 4-star options, Mapenzi Beach Club, Sandies Baobab Beach, and My Blue Hotel offer vibrant atmospheres perfect for soaking up the sun. For a touch more elegance, Seacliff Resort and Karafuu Beach Resort & Spa deliver wonderful experiences.

Stepping into the 5-star realm, Gold Zanzibar provides a luxurious beachfront escape, while Melia Zanzibar offers sophisticated indulgence. And for those seeking a modern, stylish vibe with all the trimmings, TUI Blue Bahari is a brilliant choice. Each of these hotels promises a special slice of Zanzibar paradise!

Tides and Swimming

When it comes to Zanzibar's stunning coastline, understanding the tides can really enhance your beach experience!

If uninterrupted swimming is a top priority, the far north, particularly Nungwi, is often a favourite. Here, the beaches are less affected by the dramatic low tide retreats, meaning you can enjoy the beautiful water for most of the day.

However, on the south, east, and west coasts, you'll experience a more significant tidal range. During low tide, the ocean can recede quite far – sometimes up to 1.5 km! While this means swimming might be limited during those hours, it opens up a unique opportunity. You can take fascinating walks along the exposed seabed, exploring the marine life and coral formations the sea leaves behind. It's a different kind of beach magic, offering a glimpse into Zanzibar's natural wonders.
